Drawing the Hand
I have learned from drawing and animation that the hands and feet are the most expressive part of the human body. They alone can convene more expression than the rest of the body. If you are are hiding your hands and feet in your drawings because you find them difficult to draw, then you are actually making your drawing less expressive.
People find the hands difficult to draw because of its complexity. With all the digits and joints it could be visually busy. But drawing the hand becomes much more manageable if you know the basic construction. It is simpler than you might think. So let me show you what I have learned from Andrew Loomis’ book on drawing hands.
Book Recommendation for Hands and Figure Drawing
You will see that I recommend these two books quite a bit. That is because for figure drawing, it is hard to find a better one to start with. There are other good drawing books out there, but Andrew Loomis’ method is where it all begins.
